Hi all, just finishing off my bibliography and will aim to post the draft first thing tomorrow. How does 8pm work for a Skype session? Just for an hour or so?

Not sure you have seen my post in the other forum. I am re-posting below. You will also find a few internet links in the bibliography I prepared (mostly in English, some in French also):

Cool! WIll continue along that format then. It’ll be a lot easier to create a cohesive piece if we’ve all stuck to the same structure

Hey guys,
Just double checking, I know we agreed to focus 100% on therapy, but are we still doing the four headings of economy, military, politics and culture? -

Dear all,
I added my part on Obama and Cuba both on the „Docs“ and „Etherpad“.
I do agree with you on the neo-colonialism of the US towards Cuba. Obama’s speech and his „new course“ on Cuba reflect strong power fault-lines.
As you will see, I addressed several issues in this paper, including:
– Economy: need to open free market, but locally…[Weiterlesen] -

Sounds good Laura. I guess we can assume the question purposely implies that whatever Obama ‚did‘ do in Cuba (if anything), it’s not what he ’should‘ have done? Regards all, Liam
-
I think that’s a slightly more complicated question than we might have thought – the thing is, my preliminary research is indicating that Obama is wanting to do a lot of peace-reparation things with Cuba but that the Congress system is blocking his efforts. So does ’should have done‘ overrule ‚feasible‘?
-
Now could be a good time to clarify the different approaches to this question we have each adopted. Because we agreed on 100% therapy for this assignment I have not focused on what Obama did in the recent US and Cuban rapprochement and, though I have accounted for this, instead focused on what Obama instead should have done from a deep…[Weiterlesen]

i agree with the focus on the ’should‘ which implies a sense of morality to what Obama ‚could‘ have done. I agree with both Laura’s pint about the political-legal structural impediments to any legislative changes towards Cuba and also the historical perspective that underlies the ongoing US hegemony towards Cuba.
One thing I can’t help but think…[Weiterlesen]-
Hi Howard,
This ABC interview on youtube with Obama captures a lot of the framing and political rhetoric underpinning the rapprochement. This site won’t let me upload it. The White House also presents this information through its website. It is interesting to note Obama also held an Entrepreneurs Summit while in Cuba, also on youtube. I don’t…[Weiterlesen]-
Wow. Superb insights everyone – I’m glad I touched base. I think collectively we can really prise open this issue and try perhaps to delve even deeper than some of the Professor’s existing writings on the issue from the week’s readings. Obama’s speech I found to be a real eye-opener on many levels. Like Luke, I was surprised to hear the sometimes…[Weiterlesen]

Okay, that last half sentence may have been a bit of a cathartic flourish/caricature, but you get where I’m going to with this… 😉

And the response from a certain other Castro? Well, you need to read it for yourselves…
