Welcome to our community: How do you define PEACE?

Peace for me is the absence of direct and indirect violence and the presence of justice, equality and genuine scope for personal fulfillment and well-being.

How did you find this community?

Through the Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Sydney.

Do you have any professional experience in the field of peace-research? peace-studies? peace-practice?

I have extensive work experience in responding to direct (political/ideological) violence on behalf of a range of agencies, mainly government. I am now hoping to focus on addressing other forms of violence (structural/cultural/institutional) towards achieving a more “positive peace” – a ‘peace with justice’.

Are you at all familiar with concepts of Nonviolence and Conflict Transformation?

I have had exposure to these concepts as part of my master’s degree in Peace and Conflict at the University of Sydney.

What are your primary conceptual interests and concerns

I am interested in seeing governments and non-state actors working together to counter radicalistion and violent extremism by addressing structural and cultural violence in addition to simply 'fighting' terrorism.

What is your main regional focus?

Horn of Africa (plus the Sahel, Magrheb, Middle East, South East Asia and Australia).

Languages

English and French.

CV

Twenty years experience (mainly in government agencies) working with conflict- and violence-affected communities.
