Welcome to our community: How do you define PEACE?

Hi all,

I define peace as a state in society where groups and people resolve differences through discussion, not violent means, and where respecting differences without imposing ideologies or power over another is the norm. Great care is given to ‘do no harm’ to other people throughout social processes, and where harm may be caused, open discussions regarding fault and practical ways of relieving the harm are had and acted on.

How did you find this community?

Through Sydney University.

Do you have any professional experience in the field of peace-research? peace-studies? peace-practice?

I have not had any professional experience in the peace related fields. I am in my final subject of a Masters in Development Studies and have professional experience in development at a local level.

Are you at all familiar with concepts of Nonviolence and Conflict Transformation?

I have not studied these concepts before and would have a general ‘entry level’ understanding.

What are your primary conceptual interests and concerns

Conflict transformation and breaking ideological differences between groups who see each other as 'the other'.

What is your main regional focus?

Australia
