welcome to the Galtung-Institut’s online community. May I inquire ho you discovered us and whether you have any specific questions? You became a member of the online internship group. Are you interested in being a member of our remote internship programme? Should that be the case, please do let us know so that we may proceed from there. Do not hesitate to share with us any need you may have.
Happy New Year!
Thanks for your welcome message. I am currently preparing research that I will be doing for my Bachelor Thesis. When I was looking for some of Prof. Galtung’s publications I discovered the page of the Galtungs-Institute. I found the name of the group interesting and I would be very interested to receive more information on the remote-internship-programme. I would highly appreciate it if you would send me some information!
Regarding the internship:
1. The Galtung-Institut offers two formats for internships depending on our vacancies.
Our on-site internship programme allows for an internship within our offices analogous to that of other similar international peace and conflict resolution organizations. Secondly, a remote internship programme makes it possible for students and interested parties from all over the world, particularly for interested parties hailing from afar without the financial means to join us physically, to work with us via the world wide web. Yes: subject to circumstantial delibarations, both internship formats can be combined to accomodate the needs of the intern. i.e. an intern may wish to start with the remote internship experience, and after that, join us in Basel-Germany. Such arrangements are subject to negotiations.
2. As some interns ask for 8 weeks and others for 48 weeks, the duration of the internship is somewhat negotiable. However, a minimum duration of 8 weeks, independent of the format of the internship, is mandatory. Otherwise we don’t get to impart anything of value.
3. The tasks of a G-I intern subdivide into two general dimensions: Content and Administration. Both dimensions represent equal parts of your professional experience with the G-I. The „Content“ dimension introduces you to the conceptual and methodological tenements of solution oriented peace and conflict research as pioneered and developped by Prof. Galtung et al. The „Admin“ dimension will introduce you to our office & database management and may see you in charge of specific segments of the manifold international relations of the G-I. The intensity and reach oft he administrative activities required during the internship will differ depending on whether or not you are an on-site or a remote intern.
Try and talk to Federica Ricadonna in here. she is currently our remote intern and has been working with us for about a month now
