Under the supervision of course instructor Prof. Johan Galtung, TPU’s “Advanced Conflict Transformation” (ACT) class of 2016 will study the following 6 modules:
- Module 1: “1 World”:
Themes will be:
(a) antinomies between “states and nations”; “regions and civilizations”, “rich and poor;
(b) how to induce negative peace by reducing violence;
(c) how to bring about positive peace by increasing togetherness
(d) direct violence: looking at most and least belligerent actors
(e) structural violence: Looking at richest and poorest.
(f) the peace formula with a focus on solution-politics instead of victory-poltiics.
(g) Case discussed: Afghanistan. - Module 2: “2 Americas”
Themes will be
(a) Latin America-Caribbean and Anglo-America
(b) USA-Cuba. The pioneering feminist revolution. - Module 3 “3 Africas”
Themes will be
(a) African, Muslim and Western.
(b) Slavery-colonialism-robbery–massive migration - Module 4: “4 Europes:”
Themes will be
(a) Catholic
(b) Orthodox
(c) Protestant
(d) Muslim.
(e) Greece, Ukraine, EU, massive migration.
(f) Pope-Patriarch.
(g) European House? - Module 5: “5 Asias”
Themes will be: Israel/Palestine, Syria-Iraq, Islamic State, China/sea, Japan/neighbors.
